Glass shower doors look great in any bathroom so it’s no wonder that so many of us choose to have them installed.
However, keeping your bathroom clean is an ongoing process and one of the most difficult tasks is cleaning your glass shower doors.
Keeping them clean is a very important task. You need to clean them frequently and keep on top of the task as hard water and soap buildup will not only make the doors look dirty but can even permanently damage your glass.
Thankfully, cleaning glass shower doors needn’t be a difficult and time-consuming task. You don’t need any special equipment either!
In this article, we will run you through a technique to clean your shower doors using only vinegar.
We also have another couple of ideas for using vinegar to clean even the toughest doors.
How To Clean Glass Shower Doors Using Vinegar
Our first technique for cleaning your glass door is the simplest one.
White vinegar is one of the most useful items you can have in your home because it has so many different uses around the home.
Not only does it clean your fruits and vegetables, but you can also use it for many other cleaning uses, too.
Include some white vinegar in your wash to get the mildew smell out of towels and freshen linens.
Of course, one of the best uses for white vinegar is to clean all sorts of glass including mirrors, windows, and glass shower doors.
To clean a glass shower door using this technique, you will need the following items:
- White vinegar
- Water
- A spray bottle
- Microwave-safe bowl
- Microfiber cloth or sponge
- Squeegee
Directions
Step One
Pour your white vinegar into a microwave-safe bowl and heat it in the microwave until it is very warm, but not boiling.
Step Two
Pour the vinegar into a spray bottle and mix with water. You should mix the two liquids in a ratio of one part vinegar to three parts of warm water. Make sure that the two liquids mix evenly.
Step Three
Use your spray bottle to spray the vinegar and water solution directly onto the glass shower doors.
Use the microfiber cloth or sponge to massage the solution across the glass, ensuring it is all covered.
Step Four
Once the solution is applied, leave it for 15 minutes to work.
Step Five
After fifteen minutes have elapsed, rinse the solution off using water. The easiest way to do this is with your shower head.
Use the squeegee to remove excess water and ensure that all of the solution has been washed away.
If your glass shower doors aren’t too filthy and you follow this process regularly, this should be all you need to do.
If the soap scum on the glass doors is thick and heavy, however, you can adjust the ratio of the solution.
Instead of using water and vinegar in a three-to-one ratio, you can use them in a half-and-half solution instead. The rest of the process remains the same.
If the stronger solution still isn’t enough to cut through your soap scum, then there are some other options that also include vinegar.
How To Clean Glass Shower Doors Using Vinegar And Dawn Dish Detergent
Dawn is a popular dish detergent that is also excellent at cleaning glass.
It’s often used to remove grease stains on clothes and the properties that make it good with grease also make it good with soap scum.
By swapping out water for Dawn dish detergent, you can make a powerful glass cleaning solution
To clean a glass shower door using this technique, you will need the following items:
- White vinegar
- Dawn blue dish detergent
- Spray bottle
- Scrub brush
- Squeegee
- Microwave-safe bowl
Directions
Step One
Pour your white vinegar into a microwave-safe bowl and heat it in the microwave until it is very warm, but not boiling.
Step Two
Pour the vinegar into a spray bottle and mix with the Dawn blue dish detergent.
You should mix the two liquids in a ratio of one part vinegar to one part detergent. Make sure that the two liquids are mixed well.
Step Three
Use your spray bottle to spray the vinegar and Dawn dish detergent solution directly onto the glass shower doors.
Use the scrub brush to massage the solution across the glass, ensuring it is all covered.
Step Four
Once the solution is applied, leave it for at least 15 minutes to work.
Step Five
After the solution has had time to sit on the doors, rinse it off using water. You can use your showerhead for the quickest removal.
Rub down your doors with a squeegee to help dry your doors and ensure the solution is fully removed.
How To Clean Glass Shower Doors Using Vinegar And Baking Soda
Another option for stubborn soap scum that you can use is to mix vinegar and baking soda.
This is a great option if you’re unable to get any Dawn blue dish detergent or just need some extra cleaning power.
Baking soda is used in a wide variety of recipes so you may already have some in your kitchen cupboards.
Mixing vinegar and baking soda together without any other liquid will result in a mixture that is more of a paste than a runny liquid, so do be aware of this while you’re mixing.
To clean a glass shower door using this technique, you will need the following items:
- White vinegar
- Baking soda
- Microwave-safe bowl
- Bowl
- Sponge or a brush
- Squeegee or a microfiber cloth
Directions
Step One
Pour your white vinegar into a microwave-safe bowl and heat it in the microwave until it is very warm, but not boiling.
The vinegar will be combined with the baking soda on a three-to-one ratio, so keep this in mind when you measure out your vinegar.
For example, you will use one and a half cups of vinegar to half a cup of baking soda.
Step Two
Put your baking soda into a bowl and pour over the vinegar. Combine the vinegar and baking soda together to make a paste.
This shouldn’t be too runny, so add more baking soda or use less vinegar if it starts to become too runny.
As you combine them together, you will see a chemical reaction begin to occur and the mixture will bubble.
This is fine! The mixture isn’t dangerous and this is a natural reaction.
Step Three
Spread the mixture onto your shower doors and rub it into the glass using a sponge or a brush. Try to cover all of your glass evenly.
Step Four
Once the mixture is applied, leave it for at least 15 minutes to work.
Step Five
Rinse the mixture from your glass shower doors and rub them down with a squeegee or cloth.
Final Thoughts
In this article, we listed three different ways to clean your glass shower doors using vinegar.
The first option used only vinegar and water, but the other two switched water for more powerful items to clean even the toughest and dirtiest doors.
We hope that the information and tips in this article will prove helpful and will keep your glass shower doors sparkling clean.
